Prof. Beatrice de Graaf, Principal Investigator of ERC SECURE, has been elected as new member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). In the Netherlands, membership of the KNAW is a high honour to a scientist’s research.

De Graaf holds the Chair of History of International Relations & Global Governance at Utrecht University, within the strategic theme Institutions (since February 2014). Her overarching research theme is history of security and (counter)terrorism (19th-21st century). With her research (awarded with an NWO VIDI/ASPASIA and an ERC Consolidator grant) De Graaf contributes to the emerging research field of security history. Furthermore, De Graaf frequently comments on matters of terrorism and security in the printed and broadcasted media. She is also member of the European Council on Foreign Relations, science columnist in NRC Handelsblad, and was chair of the Dutch National Research Agenda.
