ERC SECURE project team at Historian days 2017

logo historicidagen 2017Between 24 and 26 August, the Dutch Historian Days (Historicidagen) 2017 will be held in Utrecht. These three days consist of inspiring lectures, debates and workshops on all possible aspects and subjects relating to history. Beatrice de Graaf, PI of ERC SECURE chairs the national committee that organises the Historian Days.

On Friday 25 August at 1:30PM, the Utrecht school for Historicizing Security will present the first results of the ERC project ‘Securing Europe, fighting its enemies’ (in English). The panel will examine how ‘security’ as an organising principle brought about the formation of the new post-Napoleonic international order. To what extent can we speak of coordinated transnational European security cooperation at the time?

Moreover, did these security practices culminate in an identifiable security culture in which views on enemies of the state and vital interests were increasingly shared? The project scrutinises seven security regimes in which European countries were able to cooperate in the field of security even on a global scale.
