Niels Terpstra is guest blogger for the Utrecht School of Historicizing Security Blog. He is a PhD Candidate in Conflict Studies at the History of International Relations Department (GIB). His project, funded by means of a PhD scholarship from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) is titled: 'Why Do Civilian Comply with a Rebel Group? Towards a Better Understanding of Rebel Governance and Legitimation Processes during Civil War'.
Niels Terpstra’s research interests centre around the nature of governance as carried out by non-state (armed) actors during violent conflict, and policies of peace- and statebuilding during third-party interventions. His regional focus is on South Asia, particularly Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.
